Volo Museum
John and I visited the Volo Museum today. They have over 250 cars on display and almost all of them are for sale. They've got cars from the movies including a Delorean featured in Back To The Future (of course it sports the Mr. Fusion upgrade with the flux capacitor.) They've got a 1966 Batmobile from the Batman TV series. They even have the Blues Brothers car.
The most unusual car, and you have to use the word car loosely to describe this vehicle, would be the actual 1850 funeral coach used to transport the body of the outlaw Bob Younger of the Jesse James gang. The coach was originally pulled by four horses but it was recently modified to include a 500 h.p. engine making it, quite possibly, the fastest way to get to the cemetery. They also have the 1938 Cadillac owned by Frank "The Enforcer" Nitti who was infamous for being the number one hit man for Al Capone. Surprisingly, it wasn't the police or the FBI who eventually caught up with Frank. He met his end by putting a gun to his own head.
We spent hours wandering around the cars. To me they are more than just transportation. I admire them for their history and beauty as genuine works of art.
If you enjoy pictures of old cars click here to see more of my photos from the Volo Museum.
It's Christine! One of the few, if not the only, surviving example from the horror movie. In the movie, Christine was possessed by evil and could heal herself when she was damaged. How do you think they made this special effect work? They attached cables to the interior of the body panels and pulled them inward to crush them. Then they ran the film backwards to make it look like the car was repairing herself.
We saw "Kitt", the talking car from the Knight Rider TV series. No longer a big star, hasn't worked in years, it sits alone and talks to itself these days.
