Chicago - Giant spaceman

If you ever plan to motor west
Travel my way, take the highway that's the best
Get your kicks on Route 66
It winds from Chicago to L.A.
More than 2,000 miles all the way
Get your kicks on Route 66
You go through St. Louie, Joplin, Missouri
And Oklahoma City looks mighty pretty
You'll see Amarillo, Gallup, New Mexico
Flagstaff, Arizona, don't forget Winona
Kingman, Barstow, San Bernadino
Won't you get hip to this timely tip
When you make that California trip
Get your kicks on Route 66

Get Your Kicks On Route 66 by Bobby Troupe

My Route 66 tour is really underway now. I said goodbye to John Shelton today and headed into downtown Chicago to find the starting place. Thank you, John, for your tremendous hospitality! I had a great time visiting you.

Here I am at the start marker in Chicago. In reality, it's the present-day end marker since Jackson has since become a one-way street. The current start marker is one street over. Unfortunately, the friendly person who offered to take my photo there didn't press the camera button hard enough. Oh, well, guess I'll just have to come back again some day!

The Gemini Giant towers over my little KLR.

Farmers' barns often double as billboards for Meramec Caverns.
